After Nickelodeon tested interest in a Zulu-dubbed version of the popular cartoon on the animated character’s birthday in July they received lots of great outcome from it. This was after the team received positive feedback and reviews which has let them into deciding to run a full show of Spongebob in isiZulu.

The show will make its debut on our small screens this month on Saturday 05 December, DStv channel 308.

This initiative is said to be in line with Paramount Africa’s mission and vision to strive for both creative and cultural impact across all programming.

According to Monde Twala, the senior vice-president and general manager, of Paramount Africa and peer lead, BET International said through Nickelodeon Africa’s dubbing of “SpongeBob SquarePants” into isiZulu they are unleashing the power of content, unleashing the value, impact, and emotion of an already iconic piece of content.

“Paramount Africa and Nickelodeon are committed to playing a pivotal role in promoting diversity, creativity, and edutainment for African youth. In so doing, we allow our children to see and hear themselves in the characters they have grown to love,” he said.

Monde also said that they made the right choice by choosing SpongeBob SquarePants as their mission of cultural impact on their channel.

“We couldn’t just choose any show to achieve our mission of cultural impact and better representation on our channel; we had to choose the best. SpongeBob SquarePants has earned his stripes and this isiZulu series aims to preserve the local language base and reach for new audiences,” he said.
