SOUTH African singer, Rockzie is determined to shine and get herself known nationwide.
The 17-year-old singer from Limpopo whose real name is Rokunda Pertunia Mutheiwana shared that music has always been her passion and she wants to make a career out of it.
“I started music because of my love and passion for it. My love for music started at a young age when I used to sing at church and Sunday school and grew up in a family where music is a talent,” she said.
Rockzie started music in 2018 when she was a dancer of the Vhavenda cultural group until 2021 around march when her manager discovered that she has a talent in music. Shortly after that, she released her very first single, VUMANI.
She was top 7 on Thobela FM last year for the song of the year and has shared a stage with Limpopo queen, Makhadzi.
She gained exposure to the music industry where she performed as a backing vocalist with her mother in recording studios, Thandi Mtheiwana who is a backing vocalist for major gospel artists. She has performed in various places in Gauteng, Limpopo and Richards Bay. She was featured at the Sizzle City food and Wine Experience festival in Richards Bay.
In her projects, she has worked with people like DJ Mimmz Africa, Deevo, Masana Studions and BHK under Miriri Productions. She is being mentored by Miriri Productions’ very own popular artist Trica Selala.
The song “Inkanyezi” took South Africa by surprise as it started trending on all angles of social media and has also been playlisted on the country’s big Radio stations. Phalaphala fm, Metro Fm, Ukhozi Fm and most South Africa Radio stations are currently playing the Song.
She has also been interviewed on SABC News and performed on SABC 1 Kids news. Williams a popular Botswana comedian created a TikTok Challenge with her “Inkanyezi” song and reached 1.5 million views.
Rockzie is no stranger to performing in front of large crowds.
She has also performed internationally and shared the stage with Charma Gal in Botswana.
After passing her matric examinations, She released a song titled “Ndiwa Mashudu- Mbilu yanga to dakala”. The song talks about how lucky and happy she is to have overcome this milestone.
“I met challenges when I was doing my matric last as I had to balance my school work and music. I had challenges when I was not getting booked trying so hard to release songs so I can get booked. When I started music I had a challenge when I released my first song people didn't support me a lot because I was not recognized I had to push more market myself until people started to recognize me,” she concluded.
