SABC2 is pleased to introduce a brand-new drama series, Onse Kasi on Sundays at 7pm starting 28 May 2023. The
plot of the series centres on the Vissers and their financial predicament which ultimately leaves them displaced.
Patriarch Danie Visser played by Deon Coetzee, matriarch Marina Visser played by Heidi Mollentze, Charl Visser
played by Lous Auret and Dorret Visser played by Izel Bezuidenhout make up this modern-day middle-class
Afrikaans family.
When the Vissers’ suburban house in Witpoortjie is repossessed, an angel in disguise comes to their rescue and
offers them a new beginning. Danie’s secret comes to light when a bad investment and poor money management
robs him and his loved ones of their beloved picket-fence home.
The family’s misfortune is a blessing to razor sharp counsellor Nomusa, played by Meme Ditshego who offers them
shelter and a brand-new start in a nearby township. The family, who have no choice, must set aside their
reservations, and find new means of survival.
It is rare to find white people living in townships, as some who are in need prefer not to integrate with other cultures
by opting to live in makeshift shelters like the tent community at Coronation Park in Krugersdorp. The Visser’s,
although not told the truth about their new home, learn to do what progressive South Africans should- integrate and
adapt.
In our country’s dark times, Onse Kasi tells a story of hope beyond despair. When the family becomes a part of a
community, they learn that across class, race and gender, our similarities outweigh our differences. Through drama
and laughter, Onse Kasi intends to bring healing and learning to audiences who have suffered at the hands of defeat.
